These amazing little bugs will devour anything and everything you throw at them. \u003ca href=\"\/pages\/composting-black-soldier-flies\"\u003eComposting with Black Soldier Flies \u003c\/a\u003e\n\nIf you live in a climate that it either too hot or too cold for the \u003ca href=\"\/pages\/composting-black-soldier-flies\"\u003eSoldier Fly\u003c\/a\u003e to survive you can still compost with the eco-eze compot.  There are so many other composters like ground critters, worms, bacteria and all kinds of invisible things that will still make your Compots work.  Thus it will still work but it will be a bit slower.  In some instances you would get better results using the \u003ca href=\"\/pages\/super-fast-composting-above-ground-with-a-compot\"\u003eAbove Ground Method.\u003c\/a\u003e   It all depends on your climate, your environment and your particular circumstances.\n\n\u003ch3\u003eSo where do the worms live?\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\nThe worms with this system live outside the pot in the surrounding soil.   Here they get all the left over morsels leached off the food as the Soldier Fly Larvae devour your waste.   The worms will come into the pot if the \u003ca href=\"\/pages\/life-cycle-of-a-black-soldier-fly\"\u003eSoldier Flies\u003c\/a\u003e have vacated after consuming as  much of your waste as they can.\n\nIf you have a raised garden bed then you can (in most instances) safely use your pot for just worms with worm friendly food.  But if you find something it trying to get into your post to get the fresh waste then you know you need to soak your scraps to ferment the waste.  The fermentation smell should keep those unwanted garden critters away, even ants. Though ants really don't like really wet soil thus really wet compost is just as much a turn off to them as saturated wet soil.  If your soil is a bit dry it is a perfect breeding ground for ants.  Keep your pots moist by continually topping them up with your waste and the ants won't get a chance to breed up in your pots.\n\nSometimes you will find the worms and Soldier Flies in the pots together, but only if the Soldier Fly Larvae are in small numbers.
