Brassica oleracea
CABBAGE-SAVOY-PURPLE is a decorative old French variety with large flat green and purple tinted leaves that not only looks fabulous in the garden but good to eat as well. Its sweet leaves store well and make excellent sauerkraut. The colour intensifies with the cold weather. Best sown in late summer, early winter avoiding any frost days but can be sown in Spring.
Sow 5mm deep, either direct or raise seedlings. Space rows 75cm and plants 60cm apart. Likes 6 hours full sun in well-drained soil. Germinates in 3 to 7 days and matures in 100 to 130 days.
pH: 6.5 - 6.8 - Hardy Biennial / Annual

More About Direct Compost Solutions
When I started this journey in 2009, I found nothing existed commercially, that was reasonably priced and easy to use. There was a homemade system which I also found was not that user-friendly.
Then a friend of mine told me about a homemade method she used. However, when I tried her method, I found this also didn't suit my needs, as it too had flaws that I considered where important. It did not keep vermin out, did not have a lockable lid and (to me) looked unsightly in the garden.
