Keeping Your Pots Moist

This is easy to do when you water your garden. Just hose over the pot while you water and let the water seep inside your pots. You can always remove the lid to check if they are moist enough. Or just add all your waste water from your kitchen with your kitchen waste. This should provide enough wastewater to keep the contents moist and keep the bugs happy. If you don't have Soldier Flies in your area then you definitely need to keep the contents moist or it is too hard for the worms to eat either. And you will have to fill your pots up with worm friendly waste only. If it looks like it has dried out too much and has not decomposed then put the nozzle of your hose into the contents and give them a good swirl around with the water. Best to use an old nozzle if you have a lot of animal waste as it could stink up the end of your hose. But don't do this unless it looks like nothing is happening and it looks dried out.

Combining Kitchen Waste and Animal Waste

Combining your kitchen waste with your pet waste seems to keep the Soldier flies happier. It gives them more variety of food to eat but is not necessary if you don't want to do this. Because you have added your doggie doo to the mix, it will keep most dogs away as they don't usually like the smell of their own poop.  But this will not work if your dog eats his own poop.  There is really no right or wrong way to do it, just some ways work better. A little experimentation with different ways to do it will help you work out how you like to do it and what works best in your garden. Moving your Portable Recycled Compost Bins

All you have to do is remove the lid and grab hold of the rim of the pot. Give the pot a jiggle back and forth to loosen it in the soil or twist it around in the ground to free it from the soil. Now you simply ease it out of the hole and...Viola!  It is free. Empty the contents back into the hole, fill up excess with soil from your garden, and your done. Then give your pots a good clean out with water and they are ready for transport to your next address. Or you might just be moving them to another spot in the garden. If they seem really compacted in the hole you may need to do a little digging around the top of the pot in order to free it up. If you have continually turned them around in the soil each time you fill them up they will be even easier to remove.
