SWEDE-CHAMPION PURPLE known in Europe in the Middle Ages, Champion Purple Top is one of the most widely grown swedes. A very reliable performer in all conditions & soil types. It has rich butter like flesh & yellow bottoms. A slow bolting variety that has a smaller root than some other types & is very delicious in soups, stews etc & especially prized when baked. It stores well & is an excellent source of Vitamin C. The young leaves can be used as a green in salads & stir fries. Best sown in late summer or early autumn, the sweetness is enhanced by frosts & stores well in low temps.
Sow the seed thinly, lightly cover with a little soil. If you are sowing more than one row then the rows should be 60cm apart. Keep them well-watered well weeded and you should have no problems.
