Daucus carota
CARROT-PURPLE SUN is an elongated sweet crisp purple carrot inside and out. Not un similar to other purple varieties but a good buncher with antioxidant and good juicing qualities. A hybrid of Nantes it is slow to mature at 78 days. Said to contain Anthocyanins, the pigment thought to provide antioxidant benefits thus an excellent carrot for juicing or use is stir-fries, soups or grated in a salad. Prefers cooler climates around 12°C.

Sow early Spring mid Summer, 5mm deep (cover gently with soil) directly into well drained loose sandy loam or peat soil that has good water retention capacity as carrots don’t like variation in growing conditions. Set in rows 30cm apart, keep soil moist and weed free then thin seedlings at around 21 days. If required use low nitrogen fertiliser to reduce green growth up top.

More About Us

When I started this journey in 2009, I found nothing existed commercially, that was reasonably priced and easy to use. There was a homemade system which I also found was not that user-friendly.

Then a friend of mine told me about a homemade method she used.   However, when I tried her method, I found this also didn’t suit my needs, as it too had flaws that I considered where important. It did not keep vermin out, did not have a lockable lid and (to me) looked unsightly in the garden
