Cucumis sativus
CUCUMBER-LEBANESE is an excellent, sweet tasting, burpless variety, small, smooth-skinned & mild, yet with a distinct flavor & aroma. The fruits can be eaten whole or sliced but are best picked when up to 10cm long. Cucumbers do well in prepared soil with added fertilizer. These cucumbers are shorter & are a lighter green than other members of the cucumber family & when chilled they store for about 2 weeks. Produces heavy crops of sweet-flavored, cucumbers that are very mild and low in acid. Eat skin and all. Excellent in salads.

Sow 2-3 seeds in clumps, later thin to two strongest seedlings. At 5 or 6 leaves, pinch out growing tips to encourage side shoots. Keep well watered & prepare the soil with the complete fertilizer.

How to Grow Lebanese Cucumbers

  1. Lebanese cucumbers need full sun and well-drained soil. Choose a spot in your garden that gets at least six hours of direct sunlight per day.
  2. Loosen the soil to a depth of 30 cm (12 inches) and add plenty of organic matter, such as compost or well-rotted manure. This will help improve soil fertility and drainage.
  3. Sow the seeds directly into the soil once the danger of frost has passed and the soil has warmed up to at least 18°C (65°F). Plant the seeds about 2 cm (1 inch) deep and 30 cm (12 inches) apart. If you are planting more than one row, space the rows about 90 cm (36 inches) apart.
  4. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water the plants deeply once or twice a week, depending on the weather and soil conditions.
  5. Lebanese cucumbers are heavy feeders and benefit from regular fertilisation. Apply a balanced fertiliser every 3-4 weeks throughout the growing season.
  6. Consider providing a trellis or other support for the cucumber vines to climb. This will help keep the fruit off the ground and reduce the risk of disease.
  7. Cucumber beetles and aphids are common pests that can damage Lebanese cucumber plants. Monitor your plants regularly and apply appropriate measures if necessary. Neem oil and insecticidal soap are effective organic options for controlling pests.
  8. Harvest your Lebanese cucumbers when they are about 10-15 cm (4-6 inches) long.  Pick the cucumbers regularly to encourage more fruit production.

Also known as Persian cucumbers, they are a popular variety of cucumber that is smaller and sweeter than traditional slicing cucumbers. They are popular in Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cuisine and are great for salads, pickling, and snacking.  Lebanese cucumbers are a delicious and easy-to-grow addition to any garden.  With a little bit of care and attention, you can enjoy a bountiful harvest of fresh, crunchy cucumbers throughout the growing season.

More About Us

When I started this journey in 2009, I found nothing existed commercially, that was reasonably priced and easy to use. There was a homemade system which I also found was not that user-friendly.

Then a friend of mine told me about a homemade method she used.   However, when I tried her method, I found this also didn’t suit my needs, as it too had flaws that I considered where important. It did not keep vermin out, did not have a lockable lid and (to me) looked unsightly in the garden
