EGGPLANT-ITALIAN LONG PURPLE has with dark purple coloring produces large fruits with fine flavour. Vigorous growth with heavy crops. Best used before they are 20-25cm long. Plant can grow to 60-75cm and produce more than 8 eggplants.
Plant during spring to early summer. Sow thinly 5mm deep either direct where they are to grow or into a tray of seed raising mixture. Keep soil well-drained. Prefers the soil rich in organic matter. Seedlings emerge 10-14 days.12-16 weeks to harvest and yields 3.5kg per plant.

When I started this journey in 2009, I found nothing existed commercially, that was reasonably priced and easy to use. There was a homemade system which I also found was not that user-friendly.
Then a friend of mine told me about a homemade method she used. However, when I tried her method, I found this also didn’t suit my needs, as it too had flaws that I considered where important. It did not keep vermin out, did not have a lockable lid and (to me) looked unsightly in the garden
