There is no product information on recycled plastic as it comes from many different sources and is generally referred to as “Kerbside Waste”    The manufacturing process used to produce this product can only use recycled kerbside plastic or factory offcuts.  Other recycled plastic materials used in many recycled products are not suitable for the process required to produce the Compot.

All care is taken to produce a quality product that will work for you all day every day giving you many years of satisfaction, as well as naturally fertilizing your garden, reducing council waste and therefore reducing greenhouse methane gas emissions.

Please see our returns and refunds policy if you are not satisfied with your purchase but please call us first.    It is very rare for the Compot not to work and you might just need a little extra information.

POSTAGE COSTS:

To post one Compot costs the same as three Compots (unless you live in Brisbane where the rates are generally less than most other areas) so consider the postage costs when you order to get the best value out of your post.

After 3 Compots it costs roughly the same to post up to 14 Compots depending on where you live.   You can test different bundles for postage costs by entering your suburb details and requesting a quote.   Just don’t follow through with the order.   Try another bundle to compare postage costs, and then make your choice on the bundle you want.   Or call us if you can’t work this out.

The updated website and shopping cart should automatically calculate any variations of products you add to your order and offer you the three cheapest options (one with signature required) so you can choose which option you prefer, be it courier or Australia Post.  However, if this does not appear to happen then please call us (0467 006 529 / (07) 3358 3716) for a correct quote or continue to payment options.  We will refund you any postage charges over and above what the real cost is when we calculate and book your order.   So don’t be put off by the post.

If for any reason you feel the postage to your area is excessive (and sometimes it is too remote areas) please email us  so we can work something out for you.  The updated website will now give you Australia Post and courier costs, but this still may be excessive.   So, contact us to see how we can help.

If you get no satisfaction with the post, then please call us or email us and see if we can’t help you get a better deal.

And once you have them in place you might like to add ALL your kitchen waste as well and nourish your garden without the hard work of composting.  Consider where you place the Black Compots as they are slightly weaker plastic and could potentially break if you stand on the lid.  The little tabs on the side of the lid can break.  I personally would go for the green ones because they don’t break if you stand on them.  but it is up to you which one you choose. The new material makes them very similar in strength.

Can the Recycled Easy Compost Bins be recycled?

They can be recycled once they start to fall apart but they can only be recycled a certain number of times as they get softer each time and eventually become unusable.  With care they could last up to ten years or more.    Some people believe recycled plastic is the better way to go.  And in many instances it is.  But with the Compot recycled is not always the best option as they could potentially break.  And if the material is not clean but instead “Kerbside Waste” then it could potentially leach chemicals into the soil.  However the current material beings used should not leach chemicals into the soil. If you are using them in a raised garden bed and not likely to stand or sit on them, then the recycled pots are the way to go.   It is a personal choice and up to you in the end.

How many do I need?

As a general rule of thumb, I suggest one Compot per person and one for the garden.   Add one or two more if you have pets depending on whether you have a small or large animal and a small or large amount of animal waste. Add an extra one per person if you are vegetarian.  Because, even though your waste will disappear in one to two weeks if it is full of vegan waste, I have found that vegetarians eat twice as much food as non-vegetarians so they need more space.   And they also eat less processed food, so again need more space. I always say to start with a minimum amount and see how you go.  Then get more if you need more.  And if you use the “Above Ground Method” to compost some of your waste, you will find you may not need more, as the above ground method is super fast and works like having two in the garden so you get twice the space with just one pot.

How long should I let dog waste rest before using?

It is preferable to let the animal waste decomposed properly before you spread it around your garden.   This means letting one sit unattended for 4 to 6 weeks. It could be more depending on your soil type.   You will know when it is ready because the of the way it looks and smells.   Fantastic soil with that gorgeous fresh compost smell. It is still smells like animal waste then you need to let it rest for longer, and may need to add some water to speed up the process.   Having enough Compots allows you to let one rest for an appropriate amount of time while you rotate filling the other ones.   I recommend the Black Recycled Pots for using above ground system where you are never likely to stand on them. The current manufacturer I use produces the recycled Compots with off cuts from the factory floor and a portion of virgin plastic to allow the product to hold together and produce a quality product.   Previously, the quality was not as good so I would not guarantee the Black Compots.  But now I will guarantee the Black Compots for the same period as the green ones (2 years).   They will still be slightly weaker than the green ones so ideally avoid standing on them if you can.  They are excellent for use in the Above Ground Method or any raised garden bed where you are not likely to walk on the pots and will work just the same as the green ones.

In the past the Recycled Compots have been made from a mixture of plastic (called Kerbside Plastic) which could potentially leach chemicals into the soil all depending on what the plastic was used for before it was recycled. These older products are not currently produced but may be used if there is not enough off cuts from the factory floor.  The manufacturing process used to produce this product can only use recycled kerbside plastic or factory offcuts or virgin material.  Other recycled plastic materials used in many recycled products are not suitable for the process required to produce the Compot.

The Black Recycled Compots are not as strong as the green virgin plastic Compots.  As  mentioned you can break the tabs on the lid if you stand on them but they are much stronger than previous stock and should last as long as the virgin green ones.  Both can easily be recycled at a time when they finally fall apart.

I now guarantee the Black Recycled Compots and the potential of chemicals leaching into the soil is limited and depends on where the recycled plastic comes from.  If a large quantity of “Kerbside Plastic” is used there is the potential of chemicals leaching into the soil. So it all depends on what the manufacturer uses in his factory.  Just for you information – it is impossible to know if the recycled plastic was made from plastic containers which previously held poisonous material.  Testing each batch of recycled plastic is not likely to happen due to the cost involved in the testing process.

However I can guarantee that the new Black Recycled eco-eze Compots will not leach chemicals into the soil so you can safely place them around your veggies or fruit trees.

The choice is yours in the end.   The green ones can be recycled when you are finished with them.   The Black ones get weaker with each recycle phase until the plastic is not longer useable. The Black Recycled Compots can be recycled at the end of their useful life in your garden.

How it works

We want to help you and make your life easier. So we compiled all the instructions on how to use our eco-eze compot. The detailed guide contains a few simple steps to install a Compot, fill a Compot, propagate with a Compot, empty a Compot or move a Compot.

More About Us

When I started this journey in 2009, I found nothing existed commercially, that was reasonably priced and easy to use. There was a homemade system which I also found was not that user-friendly.

Then a friend of mine told me about a homemade method she used.   However, when I tried her method, I found this also didn’t suit my needs, as it too had flaws that I considered where important. It did not keep vermin out, did not have a lockable lid and (to me) looked unsightly in the garden.

Frequently Asked Questions

YES. Absolutely you can fill it with just worm friendly scraps if that is what you prefer, but you will have to separate all your scraps into two piles. I personally don’t have time to fiddle with separating food waste and just toss it all in together. One thing though – you may find the Compot will need emptying more often as the worms try to fill the pot up with soil and their castings. But you will have beautiful compost more regularly to harvest if this is your aim and your Compot will be full of worms.

There is no need to water your Compots specifically. When you water your garden water will naturally go into the Compot through the holes and this is a good thing as it will keep the contents nice and moist.

If, however, you found your pots were really dry and the waste was not decomposing at all then you might want to add some water to soften the waste to help the decomposition process along. Dry contents can occur when you don’t cover your Compots with leaves, or hay etc because the hot sun gets in, in summer, and dries the contents out, dehydrating the waste rather than decomposing it. Much the same as if you were to throw your waste out onto an open lawn without burying it. The same will happen in winter but this time it is the cold air drying out or freezing the contents.

You can fill your Compot with any biodegradable waste from your kitchen. IE: Anything that will break down. EG: Meat, citrus, onions, oil, dairy, eggs, coffee grounds, tea and tea bags, paper towel, old nuts, pasta, bread, cooked food of any sort, wastewater (with or without detergent), milk, cream, yogurt, and anything else you can find in your kitchen that you would normally eat or throw in your council bin, aside from the obvious; glass, plastic, metal etc. So literally everything that you produce in the kitchen that is biodegradable.

Everything will decompose – even doggie doo (un-medicated preferably unless you are putting this waste by a big tree or unused part of your garden). No doggie doo in your veggie patch either.

The time it takes to decompose will just depend on the density of the food, the time of the year, and whether you are relying on all the elements to decompose your waste or just worms.

If you only want to fill your Compot with worm friendly scraps, then you need to leave out most of what I just said you could put in the Compot. It’s up to you how you want to use your Compot and what you feed it. But I find it more efficient to fill it with everything. Just do what is best for you. I knew about Vicki's compot system about 2 years ago. At first, I was wondering how it works and whether it is a fast and effective composting system. Vicki was very helpful in explaining how it works and offered lots of tips to set up different ways to use the compot.

I purchased two of these compost bins, put them into my flower gardens, started putting all of my scraps into one first and then the other. So now I just rotate using them. I am very glad I purchased two, as it’s working very well for me.

Install once and just top it like any dustbin. A dustbin that handles any waste that will rot. The plants then help themselves to available nutrients and the organic mattee will be reduced in time. Simple, straight forward and self maintaining.
